Connected Counseling Co-op
Nurturing connections and healing from within
Chelsey
I grew up in Floyd and became attracted to the mental health field during high school, with my passion for the profession as well as giving back to my community only growing over the years. It was for this reason that after receiving my M.S. in Art Therapy and Counseling from Eastern Virginia Medical School I moved back to my hometown – to be a support and resource for those that need it at the local level. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor, and with 8+ years of professional experience, I’m committed to providing clients with positive therapeutic experience, direction, and guidance for their emotional well-being.
I have experience practicing outpatient counseling within the school systems with ages ranging from Pre-K through 12th grade as well as school-based case management for elementary and middle-school students in Floyd County. I’ve also provided intensive community therapy and case management with adults diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illnesses throughout the New River Valley. As a counselor I work from an Existentialism and Humanistic Therapy perspective, helping you make sense of the ups and downs of life, finding and making meaning, and creating new coping skills to help you on your journey.

With my background in Art Therapy my goal at Connected Counseling Co-op is to provide a healing therapeutic studio for Floyd County. I love finding unique and creative solutions to help clients explore and process their emotions with more than just words. Some examples are using origami folding as a method for managing frustration and patience issues in children and using Appalachian fiber arts such as quilting to work through traumatic experiences.
Alongside my training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy which helps reprocess trauma while strengthening positive memories as coping skills for the present, this combination of approaches enables me to help clients reach their goals and help with navigating current stressors and guide them forward into the future.
My previous clients include those who struggle with a variety of issues ranging from family conflict, grief counseling, anger management, anxiety, ADHD, Autism, sexual abuse history, Reactive Attachment Disorder, substance use, self-harm, eating disorders, LGBTQ+, Borderline Personality Disorder, suicidal ideation, schizophrenia, and depression to name a few.
In my free time I enjoy anything to do with creativity, especially with sewing or quilting, exploring the outdoors with my family, and breathing in our beautiful mountain air.
I will be working with children, adolescents, and adults. I am accepting waitlist clients now, and I look forward to working with you.
