Connected Counseling Co-op

Nurturing connections and healing from within

Amanda

I am a Floyd native with over 20 years of experience in the mental health field. My professional journey has been dedicated to supporting children, adolescents, and families in the New River Valley. Over the years, I have provided a variety of services, including residential treatment, intensive in-home counseling, school-based services, and supervision of therapeutic day treatment programs. For more than a decade, I served as a school-based clinician in Floyd County schools, where I worked closely with students and families to navigate life’s challenges.

On a personal level, I find joy in a variety of activities that help to bring balance and fulfillment to my life. In addition to spending quality time with my family, I enjoy baking, listening to music, and activities that allow me to connect with nature and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the outdoors. Gardening is a hobby that offers me a sense of accomplishment, as I get to nurture plants and watch them grow and thrive. There’s something incredibly satisfying to me about cultivating beauty and nourishment within my surroundings.

Recently, I took the leap to pursue a long-time dream to establish my own practice—a decision that is both exciting and a little daunting. Change can be scary, but it also holds the potential for tremendous growth and opportunity. I am fortunate to have joined with some wonderful women in a cooperative alliance.

My therapeutic style is rooted in a person-centered approach, where I focus on your unique needs, strengths, and goals. I also incorporate humor, as I believe it plays an essential role in both life and the healing process. I integrate various therapeutic techniques, such as interpersonal therapy, mindfulness techniques, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Additionally, I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, which I’m thrilled to offer as a powerful tool for healing trauma and painful memories.

My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable, supported, and empowered to handle life’s ups and downs. While the road will have bumps along the way, those challenges don’t have to define your journey. Together, we will strive to uncover the roots of challenges and cultivate solutions that lead to lasting happiness, confidence, and fulfillment.

I have experience working with individuals facing challenges such as adjustment issues, ADD/ADHD, anger, anxiety, autism, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, depression, disordered eating, grief and loss, mood disturbances, PTSD and other trauma-related disorders.

I am currently accepting adolescent and adult clients and will provide individual, family and couples counseling. I plan to provide group counseling in the future. Additionally, I am a board approved Clinical Supervisor for those working toward licensure in professional counseling.
